I absolutely love Karen Dalton. Her voice and story breaks my heart. This is a song I sang when I was in college, but I could never quite figure out my own phrasing with it. I tried and tried to emulate how she sang it until I kind of gave up on it all together because I never felt like I did it justice. I came back to it when I was choosing songs for this project and it finally clicked. It felt like it was marinating in my brain waiting for me to be ready to sing it and it just flowed out naturally. It’s such a heavy song and I think I’m a bit more mature now and able to give it my own meaning and emotion.
